Hal, is there a way to price this scenario out? Customer want's me to produce a "booklet" that is collated, drilled for 3 hole binder, but not bound in any way. They are to be boxed with a slip sheets, they will assemble in binders. Could there be such an option as a check box for "No Binding"?
I know, leave it to me! I swear I have a sign up somewhere that directs these types of customers to my shop! I've had a whole week of stupid stuff like this, my God is there a full moon that just hangs over my shop?

That's not even a half moon, Craig. Just before I sold the print shop, one of my oldest and best customers had hired an ad agency to redesign their stationery. I've come across many "prestigious" designs in my time, but this one took the cake: All three pieces, letterheads, envelopes, and business cards, were spec'd with solid, 100% ink coverage ... on the back. PMS Warm Red, full bleed.
I refused to quote on it, explained why, and lost the account. Bet they're still picking sheets off the drum of that high-speed copier they planned to use for their monthly newsletter.
The job you're quoting on would be a perfect candidate for the "Projects" I mentioned in a post on the old forum. (http://www.morningfiles.com/merchandise.html) Projects are not going to materialize overnight, and unfortunately, until they do, there's no box for no binding (somehow, that doesn't even sound right). In the meantime, you could price the job as a GBC or wire-bound book, manually delete all bindery except cutting (if x-up) and collating, then quote it as Merchandise.
BTW, Ad Agencies, if they designed houses, you'd have to wait until the wallpaper was up before you removed the scaffolding. Haven't met one yet that knew the first thing about print production.

I didn't know you could manually delete the prices! I guess I do learn something new every day!

Call me thick skulled, but how do you delete those costs? I can't select them from within the Binding costs screen. I think I need more coffee!

That, and paper and pencil, Craig. I should have been more explicit. By manually deleting I meant to write down the bindery costs shown in the Zoom Window, then deleting them with a calculator and entering the reduced price into a Merchandise item.
If you want to stay within MF, the alternative is to just reduce the final price in the Estimate Writer. The price would be dead-on for the first quantity (except for rounding), but probably not close enough for the other two unless you narrowed the spread between quantities. The safe bet is still Merchandise.
No getting away from the paper and pencil, though.

The estimate writer is so nice!!! I had to use it on a job a few weeks ago. It made my job so easy. Now I wonder if I gave a good price... LOL You can really dial in on old pricing to get very close. It makes MF so darn flexible... It is so easy to tweak your quote price.......
Your starting to scare me HAL.... LOL
Would be hard to get rid of the paper in a print shop guys...
Great Job!!!

True, Jerry. But with Morning Flight, it's easy to get rid of the pencil. :)
