David, use the in-Stock #10 envelopes that come preloaded with the program, after you've adjusted their cost to what you pay your local vendor. I noticed you set spoilage to Very Low and changed carton quantities to boxes, but do you really work with a 0% markup? That's usually reserved for in-plant shops. Because you're using "One-Price," the carton/box question is irrelevant.

This is one of the most common dilemmas in printing. Somebody orders a box of envelopes you don't keep on hand, and you know you can't deliver a full box if you buy just 500. There's bound to be some spoilage, and, if the envelopes are warped, a lot of it. You have the ink on the press, it's 6:00 o'clock in the evening, the Paper Shop is closed, and the pile of envelopes on the shop floor keeps getting bigger.

Question: Do you order a single box of 500 and take a chance? And, if the spoilage is minimal, pretend you're delivering a full box and bill for 500? Or if it isn't and the count is too low for that little "thumb on the scale" trick, wash up the press and finish the job the next morning, after you've managed to get more envelopes? Or, do you order two boxes from the start, bill for 10% overage, and save what's left over for a year-after-next-Christmas repeat order that never materializes?

Of course, you could take the time to explain up front to your customer why getting a 500-yield from a 500-box is a crapshoot, and that he or she might end up with less than a full count. That works with some customers, but makes others wonder if maybe they should have gone elsewhere.

Decisions, decisions . . . significantly above Morning Flight's pay grade. Unless the paper is in-Stock, the program always calculates envelopes in full boxes and cut-size paper in full reams. With paper you keep on the shelf, that's not an issue. You can grab more if you need to and put back what you didn't use.

Thanks Hal. I had'nt noticed that the overs = one full box!
Using the in-stock #10 works fine.
